Born in Seoul, Korea, Meaghan's lived experiences as a transracial-Asian-adoptee-woman-of-color, along with her exposure to diverse multicultural communities, have profoundly shaped her lifelong commitment to DEI work. With a passion for creating empowering spaces that bring people from diverse backgrounds together, she fosters an appreciation and celebration of one another's identities and cultures.
Her educational journey includes a PhD in American Studies from Michigan State University (MSU), an MA in English from Iowa State University and a BA in Art Education from Viterbo University. Throughout the past two decades, Meaghan has actively engaged in teaching, programming and training within higher education, spanning two universities at Iowa State University and Michigan State University as well as Lansing Community College. Her work in student affairs and academic affairs has been within multicultural offices, ethnic studies programs and first-year writing departments. Her expertise encompasses intercultural training, curriculum development focusing on race and ethnicity, women's studies, intersectionality and multicultural community literatures and history.
Outside academia, Meaghan has dedicated herself to advocacy work, community outreach, and volunteerism for underserved and marginalized communities. She began her journey in the mid-90s in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, working closely with Hmong communities through AmeriCorps. Since 2021, she has been an active member of the Board of Directors for LMTS Community Outreach Services, a non-profit food bank that addresses food insecurity and provides resources for families in need.
